Eagle Peak in Cormyr
Eagle Peak is a fortified trade town standing at the edge of the wild lands, serving as a base for those who would venture into the Farsea Marshes or the Tunlands beyond. Merchants and adventurers gather here before setting out, though many choose instead to remain within its walls and conduct their dealings with those who come out of the wilderness.
Among these are the Marsh Drovers of the Farsea Marshes, who regularly bring their wares into the town’s marketplace. Most notable among these is the infamous Death Cheese, made from catoblepas milk, sold here at far lower prices than elsewhere in Cormyr. Blocks of a pound can be had for 2 gold pieces, where they might fetch five in Suzail or through the catalog houses of Aurora. Alongside it is the more subtle and widely favored Deadeye Butter, also derived from catoblepas milk and prepared with delicate herbs.
The market also deals in hill sheep, mountain goats, and furs, in addition to the usual goods brought in by caravans—tools, hardware, and sturdy furnishings suited for frontier use.
The Garrison
Eagle Peak is home to a substantial Purple Dragon garrison of some six hundred soldiers. Stationed far from the more settled lands of Cormyr, they guard against threats rising from the west and north: Zhentarim incursions, brigands from the Tunlands, and wandering orc hordes.
The soldiers speak of their posting in less favorable terms, their marching songs reflecting the isolation of their duty at what they regard as the far reaches of the realm.
The Town
The town itself is built with defense foremost in mind. Structures are of stone, tile, and slate, chosen to resist fire in the event of siege and to better withstand incendiary attack. Magical warning wards are laid throughout the settlement, and their design allows them to be reset quickly when triggered.
Despite its stern outward appearance, Eagle Peak conceals quieter spaces within its walls. Small walled gardens are scattered among the buildings, carefully tended by the inhabitants. Within these enclosed plots, residents cultivate patches of greenery: ferns, mosses, shrubs, and a few carefully shaped trees grown low and broad, their branches trained to arch overhead and form a living canopy.
Many of these gardens contain a small, pump-fed pool, and they serve as private retreats where residents dine, receive guests, or conduct more personal affairs away from the harshness of the surrounding town.
Accommodations and Services
Eagle Peak does not offer inns or taverns in the manner found elsewhere in Cormyr. Instead, travelers must make use of separate establishments—hot food shops for meals, rooming houses for lodging, and stables for their mounts.
The stables of Eagle Peak are known for their reliability. Mounts entrusted to their care are closely guarded, and should any be lost or stolen, replacements of equal or better quality are provided whenever possible.
Trade and Exports
Eagle Peak functions primarily as a frontier trade hub. Its most notable goods include Death Cheese and Deadeye Butter from the Farsea Marshes, along with livestock such as hill sheep and mountain goats, and a steady supply of furs. Caravan goods passing through the town add to its trade, supplying tools and durable wares suited to life on the frontier.
