Gorthin in Cormyr
This little-known hamlet lies north of Kirinwood in the mist-choked boglands that give rise to the Evenbrook, the western branch of the River Mistwater in Cormyr. (The eastern branch, which flows through Kirinwood itself, is known as the Kirinar Stream.) Gorthin is a bleak place of twisted trees, rocky ridges, drifting mist, and tangled brambles. The few folk who dwell here survive by tending small flocks of sheep and gathering berries and herbs from the surrounding marshes.
Travelers are advised to keep a wary eye on the local druids, who fiercely protect the privacy of the hamlet. Those who intrude too boldly may find themselves driven away by spells that hurl thorny branches or raise walls of brambles across the paths.
Like Dreamer’s Rock, Gorthin is a place of deep poverty. It is an isolated corner of Cormyr rarely visited by outsiders, and many locals have only the vaguest notion of which realm they belong to or who sits upon the throne in Suzail. Few would consider the hamlet worth a detour, though rumors persist that gems have occasionally been discovered in the rocky ridges surrounding the settlement.
Another local legend claims that Gorthin—after whom the hamlet is named—was not a farmer at all but an ancient dwarven king whose immensely wealthy tomb lies hidden somewhere beneath the settlement. If such a tomb exists, however, no trace of it has ever been found.
