Smuggler’s Stone in Cormyr
Smuggler’s Stone is a remote fishing village in coastal Cormyr, named for the great rock that guards the entrance to its small harbor. For generations the landmark served as a guide for smugglers navigating into the sheltered cove under cover of darkness. Today it is illegal to place signal lights upon the Stone. War Wizards periodically farscry the site so Purple Dragon patrols can be dispatched to intercept smugglers or pirate vessels attempting to slip quietly into the harbor to repair their ships, evade naval patrols, or take on supplies.
The village itself is little more than a scattering of fishermen’s huts clinging to the steep slopes of a wind-lashed cove. Many of the houses stand partly over the water on wooden stilts, and in strong coastal winds those supports creak and groan alarmingly.
Local tales speak of pirate treasure hidden somewhere in the surrounding hills by raiders who never returned to reclaim their plunder. Beneath the ridges north of the village lie the crawl tunnels and caverns of at least one abandoned gnome mine, though few locals venture far within them. Aside from such rumors, there is little for honest travelers to do here beyond buying fresh fish from the villagers.
The Stone—so called by sailors and coastfolk—lies east of the mouth of the Wyvernflow. It sits in a sheltered cove formed by an east-facing point roughly halfway between the mouths of the Wyvernflow and the Mistwater Rivers. While the cove appears on most coastal charts, the tiny settlement of Smuggler’s Stone is not always marked.
